We’re all guilty as business owners of doing too much. We try to ensure everything is just perfect for our customers, try to work on a multitude of things at once and daren’t slow down for fear we’re not doing enough.
That’s true whether it’s just yourself in the business, you have a small team or a large company. As the business owner, you want to be seen to be putting the hours in and you feel guilty about taking a step back.
We work with many clients who struggle to take themselves out of the business. But to be able to grow their business, it’s an essential thing to have.
If you haven’t got the work-life balance you want, have you really got a successful business?
It could be making you great money, but if you’re run ragged achieving that then is it really working for you?
As a business owner, it’s easy to fall into the trap of focusing on negative outcomes. As you wrestle with the work and onslaught of information, it is important to keep yourself in a positive space.
If positive thinking doesn’t come naturally for you, there are steps you can take to put you and your team in a better mind space so you can navigate through difficult times.
Remember that it’s your response that determines the outcome of a situation.
Developing Mental Strength for Business Owners:
- Use positive affirmations or phrases to chase off negative thoughts.
- Find inspirational quotes and messages to bolster your positivity.
- Decide to be happy by being grateful and assuming the people around you have the best of intentions.
- Challenge yourself to maintain a positive attitude when something goes wrong—show the world how resilient and positive you are!
Staying positive doesn’t mean living in a fantasy world. It’s just about channelling an inner confidence. A confidence that you will rise to the challenge, you’ll make things better. Through acceptance and resiliency, you can move yourself and your teams to a positive and constructive mindset.
Similarly when things aren’t going right, or you find yourself bogged down and in need of a break, make sure you take that break. It’s important to remember that:
- getting a good amount of rest gives you better focus
- spending time with supportive family and friends is great for resetting the mind.
- taking a walk outdoors can help restore your inner peace.
- Speak to yourself positively… how you speak to yourself matters a lot!
- taking intentional breaks actually helps you be MORE productive!
Mental health is of course very important, and as a business owner, many things can happen to affect yours more than most, so it’s important to recognise those signs, take some time out and build a strong and positive mindset to build your business into one that works for you.
